Breaking out of inertia
Are you struggling to pursue your dream or passion ? Are you contemplating on your next step and seeking a direction with an idea in hand ? Most face a dry phase, a nimble state and deep under water no action, which I call as the high tide of inertia
I think deep inside there is something in you that is risk averse. Did this happen to you :
You called your best friend or a colleague recently, you kick started the discussion about a new idea and do this week after week, only in a belief that somewhere and somehow the momentum of discussion will secure a breakthrough. And your search for direction will become clear. Do you agree ?
I see a problem with this, a tremendous amount of calories invested and lengthy discussions, only to entertain the thought of success is what they aptly call day dreaming. Day dreaming isn’t bad, is often required to feed into your goals and vision. But once you have the goals, bias to action matters the most to achieve an outcome.
Deep inside you have a belief that you don’t want to move forward unless a clean formula to success is chalked out. You can loudly say that I want to succeed and I’m going to make a difference. But there is a huge difference in believing it vs. saying it. There is no sense of conviction there.
Agreed ? It’s not fine to just acknowledge this, greatness will come from the taste of failure. Let’s not even drag us down with unfair, immense weight on our shoulders achieve greatness and be at par with the league of other great people we admire. Let’s first work towards the title of someone who tried. That’s all it matters. Get that out of your door - someone who “tried”.
Then we will go towards someone who “tried and failed” and then someone who “tried and failed a few times”. And if that doesn’t kill the inertia, nothing will. Perhaps, it will give you validation of your conviction and passion in the first place. Either way, action to fail seems like the right step. Then if we can keep focussed, which most will as there won’t be turning back. One fine day, you will get to become “someone who tried, failed many times and made it big”- the story we all want for ourselves. Isn’t it a beautiful journey to be taking part!
So get ready to break out of inertia by acting and failing fast.
